I’ve been a big fan of Justin Bieber and his growth and with his new song Holy, he hasn’t disappointed me!
I can honestly say this is some of his best work if not, THE BEST song he has put out!
Holy comes at a time of uncertainty and chaos, we are in the middle of a global pandemic and this story tells us of a couple and their struggles. Despite everything, they have each other and their belief in God!
I’m a bit biased because I love any of the collaborations he does with Chance the Rapper. In my opinion, this song wouldn’t have worked with anyone else.
I think this is a great reflection of the journeys both himself and Chance the Rapper had gone through over the past year in their faith and in their relationships – the lyrics show that.
The storytelling is honestly so beautiful. Justin managed to not make it about him and shares a story that we can all relate to.
It’s so smart because it’s like a love letter to their spouses and family but at the same time an acknowledgement that there is hope and God is with them in their journey. They’ve managed to show this without making it inaccessible or not relatable for those who aren’t religious or spiritual.
Justin and Chance the Rapper spoke on their IG Live about the importance of the song for them, especially at this moment in time. Talking about Chance getting baptised last year and Justin’s growth, it set the scene for the video.

As artists, I’m a massive fan of their gifts, lyrically I think Chance can’t do any wrong (listen to the album Colouring Book if you haven’t already and thank me later). The way he shared his personal life in his verse on this song actually made me so emotional.
I love the fact that Justin didn’t have his wife in this one – not that it would have been a bad thing, I just think it would have taken away from the whole story. I loved how easy it was the follow and understand the telling of the story as well. By the end of it, I was in tears.
It’s been a long time since a music video has moved me that way. And from the reactions I’ve seen on YouTube in the past 5 days that the song has been out, I’m not alone.
Honestly, I can’t stress enough how much I’m loving Justin’s growth musically and as a person. I think it’s brilliant!
I’m such a huge fan of this song and I can’t wait for this next album to drop!
